Average Christmas Gift Price – The price of a gift for Christmas shouldn’t matter, but it does to the average person. The economy and the job market have many of us very concerned about the upcoming Christmas season. This time of year gets everyone in a great giving mood, but we should be careful and conscious of our budgets.
You don’t want to get yourself into financial trouble trying to keep up with the best gift givers in your circle. The price of the Christmas gifts your purchase should be taken into consideration. This is going to be the subject of our discussion today because Christmas is just a few weeks away and we should all be a little budget conscious this year.

First of all, you must recognize there are different people in your life, so you can’t say you are just going to spend $100 per gift for everyone on your list. Your co-workers are not the same as your parents. Your friends are not the same as your children when it comes to gifts. for Christmas. You must make distinctions, so I thought it was important to have them here in our discussion on average Christmas gift prices.
Children – $60 – Being a parent, I am almost sure the average gift for a child this Christmas is going to cost about $60. I have two boys and they are heavy into electronics and video games. It is a shame how much these things cost these days, but that is the price we pay in gifts to keep them happy and out of our hair. Don’t try to buy your children, but there is nothing wrong with a few gifts during the giving season of Christmas.
Parents – $50 – Buying something nice for your parents are important. It should just be one additional way you show your love for them beside your constant phone calls, kisses and hugs. Being that most parents would prefer you take the money you intented to spend on them and spend it on the Grandparents, I believe you should keep it simple. This is why I believe the average gift for them is about $50.
Spouse – $100 – My wife and I set the budget for our Christmas gifts for one another at $100. During the lean years, we drop this number down to $50. It is better to roll these gifts into our children’s. They seem to enjoy it more than anyone, so why not spend it there.
Family Members – $35 – I am going to say the average gift purchased for aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, and cousins is in the $35 range. Most of them understand because they have gifts to buy for their families as well, so they are not so quick to demand top notch gifts from you.
Friends – $25 – The same is held true for friends. We all have families and children to surprise for Christmas. A $25 average gift for them is more than enough. Besides, I know my friends, they just want a bottle of wine or some beer for the day and they are good…..I am the same way.
Co-Workers – $10 – You definitely don’t want to go overboard on the gifts for co-workers. There are too many of them and you all have family’s to attend to as well, so be careful when you are out shopping for co-worker’s Christmas gifts. You don’t want to send the wrong message with a large gift anyway. I think your place of work should be kept to business and not so much about the gift did or didn’t give.
