How To Live On A Tight Budget

Having lost their disposable income, many families are looking for solutions on how to live on a tight budget. Today, it is my aim to hopefully shed a little light on the situation for you and get you through these tough financial times.

Let’s get started below, but if you have anything to add to the discussion, please do so in the comment section at the end of the article. We would love to hear your input into budgeting and hopefully you can teach everyone a thing of two.

Keep the Faith – Staying positive is very important when you are facing a financial crisis. If you lose your head, nothing good will come to it. Your work will suffer. Your efforts to increase income will fall short. You will be agitated and irritable, which is not going to help your situation, so stay positive and continue swinging until you are able to get out of this crunch.

Establish Your Financial Goals – You may be thinking survival is your only goal when you are down, but this doesn’t have to be your reality. Setting goals can motivate you to stay on pace and stick to your tight budget. Maybe you are budgeting tightly to save up for something else and not necessarily struggling. You just have to stay focused and goal setting can help you in this area.

Become a Do It Yourself’er - Many of our expenses come from just going out and buying a replace for something when it could be repaired with a little elbow grease.

Here is a great example. Our wash machine is leaking right now. The common solution is to purchase a new washing machine, but did you know this is a simple solution. All you have to do is google the situation and follow the instructions. If you are willing to put in the work, then you could save yourself some serious money being a do it yourself’er!

Start a Fruits and Vegetable Garden – The cost of food is going up across the board. Therefore, it just makes sense for you to start a garden of your own that will take care of and feed your family. This will save you serious amounts of money in the process and your food will be much healthier.

Rewards for Hitting Goals – I am a big believer in rewarding ourselves to stay on track. This doesn’t have to be a diamond necklace, but you could go out and get yourself a special treat. Maybe you have given up your daily Starbucks drink, so you can have one at the end of a month sticking to your budget. Don’t want you to go our and ruin your budget, but you should feel good about sticking to the goals for an entire month.

If you are diligent and willing to work hard, then there is no doubt that you can live a good life on a tight budget. My wife and I have been doing it for the last two years because our income hasn’t been what it has been in the past, but we are making it work. In addition to this, we are working hard to make sure the income rises again and the good times roll, but we will be wiser with our money thanks to learning how to live on a tight budget.
