July isn’t over yet, so let’s be sure to get out there and get some things done in the garden. This is the subject of our conversation today. Want to give you a few pointers on the things you can do in your garden for the month of July.

Trimming – Now is a good time to get out in your yard and garden to trim any flowers or plants displaying brown areas or spots. Cutting off the dying portions of your plants can allow them to better prosper. Many of the perennials you plant may be showing brown in some areas, so be sure to get rid of the edges to give them a chance to continue growing.

Water – July is our hottest month. Make sure you are not working hard on your yard and garden only to see the sun kill it. Make sure you are watering your garden and lawn regularly, but be sure to do it at night. Night watering is much better because the water actually has a chance to reach down deep in the roots of your grass. This is the area that really needs the water most, so give your lawn and garden a better chance by watering at night.

Harvest & Replant – It is time to harvest the early plants in your garden. These would include potatoes, cabbage, onions, leaks, and beets. Once you have them out of the ground, be sure to replant something else. A good suggestion would be beans, cucumbers, zucchini, and melons. These tend to grow well in the summer months, so make sure you take advantage.

Weed n’ Feed – You don’t have to use this particular brand, but you need something that will help the surpassed the growth and spread of weeds in your garden and lawn.

Grass Clippings –  People are always looking for ways to better treat their lawn and gardens, but routinely throw away their grass clippings. These are a great source of nutrients for your lawn and garden. Be sure to use them this month. Just take the bag off of your lawn mower and allow the clippings to fall back onto the lawn. You can even sprinkle a few into your garden if you like. Grass clippings are a natural fertilizer.

These are some great ideas for you implement in your garden in July. Take the time to get out there and tend to your garden and it will continue to produce for you.

July has been a rough one for our garden, as far as the water aspect. We have a rain barrel set up, but if there is no rain than I got no water. I really dislike watering the garden and having to pay for it.

    Great list.
