October Home Maintenance Checklist – The checklist of maintenance to your home in the month of October is the subject of our discussion today. I know it is tough to believe we are already a few days into the month of October. Seems like the year is just flying by.
Let’s not get caught up in how fast the year is flowing by and not do the things we need to do to properly maintenance our homes. Our home is our number one asset, so let’s be sure to take care of it. There are several things we need to do to our home during this month, so we have prepared a basic checklist below.
October Home Maintenance Checklist
This has become a regular segment here at Invest With Passion and I am really thankful because it allows me to know what to do to my home. The maintenance checklist is something everyone should go through each month to make sure you home and it’s systems are receiving the best possible care and preparation for the season ahead.
Like it or not, the winter months are coming and by all reports it will not be a pleasant winter for most of us. The Indian summer we have enjoyed seems like it will come back to haunt us in the form of a very cold winter. Not sure how cold it will be, but you need to be prepared and so does your home.
October Home Maintenance Checklist
Let’s get into the checklist for your home maintenance in the month of October. The list isn’t very long, so don’t whine and complain. Just make sure you are ready to spring into action and get it done. As home owners we have to step up and get it done.
- Replace filters or wash permanent ones in heating system
- Change batteries in carbon monoxide and smoke detectors
- Reset clocks and clocks in electronics for Daylight Savings Time
- Reset programmable thermostat
- Clean and inspect gutters and downspouts
- Clean and store outdoor furniture and decorations
- Wash window glass, frames and sill
- Clean out weep-holes in sliders and change screen to storm panel
- Wash storm door frame and replace storm panels
- Remove portable air conditioner unit
- Clean and store lawn equipment and tools
- Winterize sprinkler system and drain and turn off outdoor water spigots
- Plant spring flowering bulbs
- Clean up fallen leaves, pine needles etc. from lawn and garden beds, build up soil with slow-release fertilizer and mulch plants for winter protection
Be sure to adhere to the list above because your home needs the maintenance and care. We expect a lot from our homes, but often times we don’t want to put the work into it. Don’t fall into this trap because if you don’t take care of your home, it will not take care of you.
