Being that it is the new decade of the new millennium, we thought it would appropriate to search the Internet for some great tax advice and that is just what we did. However, this is not the tax advice that you might expect where we tell you how to maximize your deductions and calculate your mileage for your return. Instead we are going a little deeper than that to provide you with some tips on guarding your email during tax season.
This is going to be hard for most people to believe, but the IRS is actually looking out for us these days as we are their source of income. Sarcasim aside, here is a great little video from the IRS about phishing and malware scams that are bound to show up in your inbox this tax season.
This email is great because it let’s you know that the IRS is not proactive in contacting you about your taxes. They know you are not going to forget about them because if you do, they will knock on your door, not send an email.
So, during the first 4 months of this year, if you receive any suspicious emails from the IRS claiming to need your bank account so they can deposit your check, please be aware that it is a scam and not from the IRS. The IRS will never contact you by email asking for your bank account information, so don’t fall for this one and end up with a lump of coal for tax season.
